The Khmelinskii laboratory focused on understanding the principles that underlie cellular proteome organization and dynamics. We develop and deploy methods to study mechanisms and functions of selective protein degradation in cellular proteostasis, aging and cancer.
Evolutionary conserved N-degron pathways recognize and target for destruction proteins carrying ill-defined N-terminal degradation signals. Using experimental and computational approaches, we aim (i) to dissect the specificity determinants and (ii) to identify novel physiological functions for these pathways in human cells
